On Thursday April 26, students from \u201cOptions\u201d, CCH gathered at the patio to challenge the community to change each other\u00b4s mind.<\/p>\r\n
This activity was reproduced based on Steven Crowder\u00b4s post #ChangeMyMind in which he attempted to have people with opposing viewpoints convince him of various issues. After his original post in which he sat behind a sign that read \u201cMale Privilege is a myth \/ Change My Mind\u201d in a University Campus, the former Fox News contributor\u00b4s post received more than 900 retweets and 6,400 likes in four days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n At Colegio Madrid, we decided to give this a try by coming up with shrewd ideas that could promote controversy and dialogue. Understanding the relevance of communication in the acquisition of a second language, teachers and students sat on tables that showed signs with the topics chosen by the students, to debate and try to give arguments that might help change the other person\u00b4s mind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Students used the English language and developed collaboration and critical thinking skills regardless of their level. Through these interactions students displayed their knowledge of the language with an attitude of respect and some wit as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Some of us admitted having our minds changed and better yet, we discovered the argumentative qualities of our students.<\/p>\r\n We strongly believe this activity should take place next year\u2026 Change my mind.<\/p>\r\n #CambiardeOpini\u00f3n<\/p>\r\n En el Colegio Madrid, decidimos intentarlo generando ideas\u00a0 <\/span>que promovieron la controversia y el di\u00e1logo. Comprendiendo la relevancia de la comunicaci\u00f3n en la adquisici\u00f3n de un segundo idioma, los profesores y estudiantes se sentaron en mesas que mostraban letreros con los temas que los alumnos eligieron para debatir y tratar de dar argumentos que pudieran ayudar a cambiar la opini\u00f3n de la otra persona. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Los alumnos usaron el idioma ingl\u00e9s y desarrollaron habilidades de colaboraci\u00f3n y pensamiento cr\u00edtico independientemente de su nivel de ingl\u00e9s. Esta actividad se realiz\u00f3\u00a0 <\/span>bas\u00e1ndose en la publicaci\u00f3n #ChangeMyMind de Steven Crowder en donde intent\u00f3 que personas con puntos de vista distintos, lo convencieran de diversos asuntos.
