The Fascinating History of a Global Language<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

English event in secondary<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

English is everywhere: in the songs we sing, in the books we read, in the video games we play and, of course, at school.<\/p>\r\n

This year, after two long years of interruption due to the highly variable learning conditions of pandemic times, we celebrated second language learning by introducing our students to the history of a resilient language that faced near extinction more than once and yet, has become the lingua franca of the world.<\/p>\r\n

English is the language of travelling, business, education, technology, and diplomacy. Our students speak, read, write, and make sense of it through listening; and they also work with its form, function, rhythm and sounds.<\/p>\r\n

So why not spark their curiosity and stimulate their desire to keep learning it by creating a series of activities for them to know and enjoy the origins, development and future of English?<\/p>\r\n\"\"\r\n

El ingl\u00e9s est\u00e1 en todas partes: en las canciones que cantamos, en los libros que leemos, en los videojuegos que jugamos y, por supuesto, en la escuela.<\/p>\r\n

Este a\u00f1o, despu\u00e9s de dos largos a\u00f1os de interrupci\u00f3n debido a las condiciones de aprendizaje altamente variables de los tiempos de pandemia, celebramos el aprendizaje de un segundo idioma presentando a nuestros estudiantes la historia de un lenguaje resiliente que estuvo cerca de la extinci\u00f3n m\u00e1s de una vez y, sin embargo, se ha convertido en lingua franca.<\/p>\r\n

El ingl\u00e9s es el idioma de los viajes, los negocios, la educaci\u00f3n, la tecnolog\u00eda y la diplomacia. Nuestros estudiantes hablan, leen, escriben y le dan sentido a trav\u00e9s de la escucha. Tambi\u00e9n aprenden sobre su forma, su funci\u00f3n, su ritmo y sus sonidos.<\/p>\r\n

Entonces, \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 no despertar su curiosidad y estimular su deseo por seguir aprendiendo creando una serie de actividades para que conozcan y disfruten los or\u00edgenes, el desarrollo y el futuro del ingl\u00e9s?<\/p>\r\n
