Mythical creatures are supernatural animals, beings, hybrids that do not exist in real life. Many mythical creatures have supernatural powers (some good, some evil); powers that even in contemporary times have no physical explanation.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The teaching of mythology provides many varied benefits to students of all ages. Students come in contact with a variety of world cultures while comparing those cultures to their own. Mythology also teaches history by examining ancient times and their effect on the modern world.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the first unit of the book, \u2018Beastly Tales\u2019, 6<sup>th<\/sup> graders worked a lot on this important topic. First, they expressed their previous knowledge about mythology. Then, the students watched some videos about the most popular mythical creatures and the myth of \u2018Jason and the Argonauts\u2019. They also read and learned the names and complete descriptions of the most famous beasts. They used all these words in context by doing exercises and singing a funny song.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To wrap up the unit, our children created their own mythical creature. They used their imagination to invent an amazing beast, and they described it. Our students from 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade demonstrated truly spectacular abilities and achieved incredible results; they really enjoyed doing this activity. Las criaturas m\u00edticas son animales, seres o h\u00edbridos sobrenaturales que no existen en la vida real. Muchas criaturas m\u00edticas tienen poderes sobrenaturales (algunos buenos, otros malos); poderes que incluso en la \u00e9poca contempor\u00e1nea no tienen explicaci\u00f3n f\u00edsica.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La ense\u00f1anza de la mitolog\u00eda proporciona muchos y variados beneficios a alumnas y alumnos de todas las edades. Ellas y ellos entran en contacto con diversas culturas del mundo y las comparan con las suyas. Utilizaron todas estas palabras en contexto realizando ejercicios y cantando una divertida canci\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para terminar la unidad, las y los alumnos crearon su propia criatura m\u00edtica. Utilizaron su imaginaci\u00f3n e inventaron una bestia asombrosa y la describieron. Las y los ni\u00f1os de 6\u00ba a\u00f1o demostraron habilidades realmente espectaculares y consiguieron resultados incre\u00edbles; disfrutaron mucho realizando la actividad.
