A text to say goodbye / Un texto para decir adiós

In the middle of a world health crisis, students of sixth semester of Colegio Madrid embrace stoically the academical and emotional challenges ahead of them, and still find the motivation to remember happy experiences at school.

As part of the English assignments worked online, students wrote an essay in which they reflected on the things they most appreciated during their school years at Colegio Madrid, along with the lessons we are incidentally learning due to the current situation.

Here are some of their thoughts reflected on their essays:

“I think the philosophy/culture of the school has a very strong influence on my way of thinking. I think, as an example, that individuality, freedom of speech and respect to anyone are some of the most important things I’ve learned in my life, and I learned them from the school.”     Daniel Armenta

“This school gave me more than I could imagine in only one year, unfortunately it was the last year, but I think things happen for a reason and it is better late than never.”     Giovanni Martínez

“The school has been a fundamental part in my life, today I feel happy with myself to see what I have achieved so far. I have learned so many things from my classmates, from my teachers, from experiences inside and outside the school, that I will remember forever.”     Vianca Olvera

“I remember my first day of school in Colegio Madrid’s kindergarten, when I was introduced to the classroom and I was just very afraid to make friends without thinking that all those people would accompany me for the rest of my childhood and adolescence becoming my family. From that day on, the school became my home, where I spent most of time, where I always felt respected and loved.”   Luz Elena Barrios

“I think this pandemic has taught us a lot; It has taught us how fragile our life and plans are and how unpredictable the world is but not only that, it has shown us a dramatic class division and a way of relating to people based only on technology, efficiency, and production.”     Yoali Campos

These quotes are just a fragment of both, the emotional and deep reflections students expressed in their texts. Reading them makes anyone who belongs to this institution feel proud and fortunate.
