Virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo, California
In April we went on a virtual field trip to the wonderful San Diego Zoo, in California. We were able to take a virtual tour of all its areas, discover its spaces and the location of the different species. With this experience the students practised their listening comprehension skills by answering a questionnaire, as well as their ability to express themselves orally when giving directions to move to different parts of the zoo in a voice note
We even got creative with some fun crafts!
However, the funniest part was being able to see the live cameras of tigers, penguins, lions, giraffes, elephants, polar bears and many more animals, and describe in a written text what we had most enjoyed from the experience. It was an incredible feeling knowing that we were seeing them live!
This is what our students said about this experience:
‘I really liked going to this Zoo and I saw all the animals, except the tiger. I think my favourite was the polar bear because it was very beautiful and its habitat was very beautiful, too. I even gave it a name: Polartico. The condors were also cute and I saw they were mom and baby condors.’ (Tania)
‘I saw a big and incredible elephant. I think he was having breakfast but it wasn’t the only one there; there were many elephants playing and eating, all at the same time. I realised that they are a bit slow but it doesn’t matter, it seems that the animals are in good conditions and the Zoo workers treat them very well, and give them everything they need.’ (Patricio)
‘A really beautiful tiger passed by and it had a lot of black stripes in all the body, and I saw it had a lot of fur that was very pretty and made it look majestic.’ (Santiago)
‘I saw a lot of cameras on the Zoo’s website. My favourite was the tiger cam. I saw a pretty little koala that was sleeping on a tree and it was very cute. I love koalas! The only thing that I didn’t like is that it didn’t wake up… that was sad. I was hoping to see its face once more. The cutest animal was the baby hippopotamus. I also watched the penguin cam. They were swimming with sharks! I don’t know why the sharks don’t try to eat them. Finally, I saw the platypus cam and saw them swimming all around.’ (Verónica)

Práctica de campo virtual al Zoológico de San Diego, California
En abril fuimos de práctica de campo virtual al maravilloso zoológico de San Diego, en California. Pudimos hacer un recorrido virtual por todas sus áreas, descubrir sus espacios y la ubicación de las diferentes especies. Con esta experiencia los alumnos practicaron su habilidad de comprensión auditiva al responder un cuestionario, así como su capacidad de expresarse oralmente al dar indicaciones para trasladarse a distintos puntos del zoológico a través de una nota de voz.
¡Hasta nos pusimos creativos con unas divertidas manualidades!
Sin embargo, lo más divertido de todo fue poder ver las cámaras en vivo de tigres, pingüinos, leones, jirafas, elefantes, osos polares y muchos otros animales y describir en un texto escrito lo que más habíamos disfrutado de la experiencia. ¡Fue una sensación increíble saber que los estábamos viendo en vivo!
Esto es lo que nuestros alumnos dijeron de la experiencia:
‘Realmente me gustó ir al zoológico y vi todos los animales, excepto al tigre. Creo que mi favorito fue el oso polar porque era muy hermoso y su hábitat era también muy hermoso. Incluso le di un nombre: Polártico. Los cóndores también eran lindos y vi que eran mamá y bebé.’ (Tania)
‘Vi un gran e increíble elefante. Creo que estaba desayunando pero no era el único ahí; había muchos elefantes comiendo y jugando, todos al mismo tiempo. Me di cuenta que son un poco lentos, pero eso no importa, parece que los animales están en buenas condiciones y que los trabajadores del zoológico los tratan muy bien, y les dan todo lo que necesitan.’ (Patricio)
‘Un hermoso tigre pasó caminando y tenía muchas rayas negras en todo su cuerpo, y vi que tenía mucho pelaje que era hermoso y lo hacía ver majestuoso.’ (Santiago)
‘Vi muchas cámaras en la página del zoológico. Mi favorita fue la del tigre. Vi un pequeño koala durmiendo en un árbol y era muy lindo. ¡Amo a los koalas! Lo único que no vi es que se despertara… eso fue triste. Estaba esperando ver su cara una vez más. El animal más lindo era el bebé hipopótamo. También vi la cámara de los pingüinos. ¡Estaban nadando con los tiburones! No sé por qué los tiburones no tratan de comérselos. Finalmente, vi la cámara de los ornitorrincos y los vi nadando en su espacio.’ (Verónica)
