Our Summer in Bath, England

Learning English from books will never be the same as learning it from its places, food, history and people. So it was for a group of students from Colegio Madrid in an exciting and enriching adventure in one of the greatest countries in the world, England.

This last summer a group of 33 students accompanied by two teachers spent three weeks in Bath, one of the most beautiful and traditional cities of England. Designated by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Bath may astonish anyone with its 18th-century-style buildings and streets, the Avon River that crosses it, its wonderful gardens and museums, as well as all the exclusive shops it offers.

The students stayed at Prior Park College, a Palladium hillside mansion that was built in 1740. There the learners took English lesson daily, where not only did they improve their communication skills and language knowledge, but also got along with students from other countries such as Italy, Spain, Russia and China.

Within the most interesting aspects of the trip were the excursions to Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, London, Bristol, Salisbury and the famous Stonehenge.

During the journey there was not a single day in which students would not be amazed at the magnificent buildings, the landscapes, the food, the weather, the shops, the particular British accent or simply at the kindness and courtesy of people.

It is undeniable the quantity of knowledge, wisdom and secrets that books enclose; but nothing can be compared to language, culture and daily life first-hand learning of such an extraordinary country as England is.

Aprender inglés de los libros nunca será lo mismo que aprenderlo de sus lugares, comida, historia y gente. Y así fue para un grupo de alumnos del Colegio Madrid en una emocionante y enriquecedora aventura en uno de los más sobresalientes países del mundo, Inglaterra.

En este verano pasado un grupo de 33 alumnos, acompañados por dos maestras, estuvieron tres semanas en Bath, una de las ciudades más bonitas y tradicionales de Inglaterra. Nombrada por la UNESCO como Patrimonio de la Humanidad, Bath puede asombrar a cualquiera con sus edificios y calles estilo siglo XVIII, el Río Avon que la cruza, sus maravillosos jardines y museos, así como todas las exclusivas boutiques que ofrece.

Los alumnos se hospedaron en Prior Park College, una mansión palaciega situada en una colina que fue construida en 1740. Ahí los estudiantes tomaron clases de inglés diariamente, donde no sólo mejoraron sus habilidades comunicativas y su conocimiento del idioma, sino se relacionaron con alumnos de otros países como Italia, España, Rusia y China.

Dentro de los aspectos más interesantes del viaje se encuentran las excursiones a Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Londres, Bristol, Salisbury y Stonehenge.

Durante el viaje no hubo un día en el que los alumnos no se maravillaran ante los majestuosos edificios, los paisajes, la comida, el clima, las tiendas, el particular acento inglés, o simplemente ante la amabilidad y cortesía de la gente.

Es innegable la cantidad de conocimiento, sabiduría y secretos que encierran los libros, pero nada puede equipararse a aprender y descubrir en carne propia la lengua, cultura y vida cotidiana de un país tan extraordinario como lo es Inglaterra.
